Due to her pioneering efforts through The Bhubaneswar Bird Walks (TBBW), bird awareness and documentation in Odisha saw a quantum leap since 2013, with birdwatching being adopted as a hobby by many enthusiasts, young and old. She writes regularly for wildlife magazines and journals like Sanctuary Asia and Indian Birds and is the only woman from Odisha to be featured in Sanctuary Asia’s special issue titled “Women for our Wilds”. She is an avid supporter of handlooms and the cause of weavers, so much so, that she has put in place a handloom dress code in the school. With a keen sense of aesthetics, she is always consulted for her unique design ideas. She is now working on a book on the birds of Odisha, as well as, a book on the festivals of Odisha, in order to enable the next generation of odias to understand their rich culture and tradition.

Panchami Manoo Ukil believes that every thought must be creative and every action should be purposeful. She tries to integrate this philosophy into the smallest of everyday activities, thereby lending a touch of uniqueness to the character of the institution. Schooled in one of the premier educational institutions of the country, Maharani Gayatri Devi School, Jaipur, she constantly attempts to infuse the TWIGS system with the ethos of MGD, while incorporating the dynamics of the modern education system. To her, a holistic education system is one that harmoniously blends the tradition with the modern so that future global citizens are a perfect amalgamation of empathy and excellence. From the name of the school, motto, vision and authoring the school anthem, to creating the school website, her stamp of uniqueness is evident as is her style of leadership that believes in enabling and empowering.

Panchami Manoo Ukil’s single brief to her team is “to promise only that much which we can deliver, and, to deliver every bit that we promise”.
